| News Flash | Verizon Inspection and Restoration of Poles within the Village of Freeport
To all Residents and Homeowners:
Verizon is currently inspecting its wooden utility poles in the Village of Freeport to determine the condition of the poles and to treat them accordingly to extend the life of the poles. Osmose Contracting (Osmose) was hired by Verizon to perform the inspections. The inspection process requires the removal of the top layer of sod around the pole prior to excavation. The affected area is no more than one foot around the base of the pole. Osmose then hand excavates to a depth of 18 inches around the base of the pole (decay zone), inspects the pole and applies wood preservatives as needed. Osmose would then replace the sod and backfill.
If the pole is unable to be restored, Osmose will return with another crew to reinforce the pole. This practice requires Osmose to submit a locate request to all utilities and once cleared, to drive a piece of steel down the side of the pole and band it to the good wood above, negating any deteriorated section. If the pole is not able to be restored, Osmose will submit a request to Verizon for replacement.
Please direct any questions regarding the inspection and restoration process to Verizon at 347-978-6331.
