Our objective is to build awareness of our energy efficiency programs and to make sure our customers understand the benefits of these programs from an energy savings and environmental standpoint. This education program will focus on the education of both Freeport Electric Staff and the public regarding the impacts of energy usage on a wide variety of levels. There are many low-cost, simple things that customers can do in and around their homes to reduce energy use and save money.

Energy efficiency is the quickest, cleanest,and most economical way to reduce energy use and save money on your energy bill. This power point presentation is intended to provide information on the benefits of using energy efficient products. It will show the impact that energy consumption within our community creates from a financial and environmental perspective, and suggest ways that energy can be used more responsibly.

Security Lighting Program
Under this program Freeport businesses can lease high-efficiency security lighting for a flat monthly charge which includes lamps, energy consumption, and twenty-four hour, year round maintenance.
Energy and Safety Education
• Never remove the ground pin (third prong) to make a three prong plug fit into a two prong outlet.
• Never force a plug into an outlet if it doesn't fit.
• Avoid overloading outlets with too many appliances.
• Make sure there are safety covers on all unused outlets that are accessible to children.
• Make sure that cords aren't frayed or cracked.
• Cords should never be nailed or stapled to the wall, baseboard, or to another object.
• Don't place cords in high traffic areas, under carpets, beneath rugs, or under furniture.
Light Bulbs
• Check the wattage of all light bulbs in light fixtures to make sure that they are the correct wattage for the size of the fixture.
• Replace bulbs that have higher wattage than recommended.
• Make sure light bulbs are screwed in securely – loose bulbs can overheat.
Circuit Breakers & Fuses
• Circuit breakers and fuses should be the correct size current rating for their circuit.
• Always replace a fuse with the same size fuse.
• Create a circuit map that clearly identifies all outlets, fixtures and major appliances each circuit serves.
Appliances
• If an appliance repeatedly blows a fuse, trips a circuit breaker or if it has given you a shock, unplug it and have it repaired or replaced.
Kids Education
• Classroom energy education.
• Make sure your computer is off before you go to school.
• Primary and secondary school presentations of working model of the Village of Freeport's Electric Distribution System.

• Never use torchiere lamps in children's bedrooms or playrooms.
