    New York State Public Service Commission approves Freeport gas and electric transmission lines: certificate of environmental compatibility and public need permits construction of Power Plant 2 Electric Generation Project facilities.

    Freeport proceeds with soils removal: Power Plant 2 PCB remediation incorporates extensive measures to protect public health and safety.

  13. October 2003

    Village counters DEC recommendation to prematurely close Power Plant 2: Village agrees to decommission old diesels when new turbine project operates, and first of the new turbine engines arrives in Freeport: Village expects new Power Plant 2 generator to be online by spring 2004.

  14. November 2003

    Freeport completes removal of contaminated soils from Power Plant 2 site.

  15. December 2003

    Village To Appeal DEC Commission Power Plant 2 diesel ruling: January 31 2004 closure date is premature, Village agrees to decommission old diesels when new turbine project operates, and Village acts to protect ratepayers from potentially significant rate impact if diesels are forced shut just 2 months before new combustion turbine operates.

  16. January 2004

    New York State Public Service Commission to conduct hearing on Village electric rates: NYSPSC and Village negotiated preliminary settlement for rates to fund Power Plant #2 Generation Project, support increased utility operating costs and stabilize long-term rates, with future Power Plant 2 revenues to offset bond costs, projected utility rates remain lower than LIPA.

  17. February 2004

    Freeport gas and electric transmission lines completed: new Power Plant 2 combustion turbine project proceeds to test firing.

  18. April 2004

    New generation project operates on schedule: old Power Plant 2 diesels decommissioned, construction of second merchant generator on schedule for June operation.
